Vibration Damper Slipping
Help!
On my 3.0D the accessory belt does not seem to be turning at the correct speed, sometimes leading to my alternator light coming on, and the power steering to go heavy, but not always. On inspection I can see that Vibration Damper (below) on the end of the crank shaft seems to not be turning in sync with the crank shaft (i.e. its slipping).... is that possible? The belt itself is tight and not the problem, but you can see the belt slow when the steering is turned (i.e the power steering pump is loaded) and on the Vibration Damper the outside slows but the inside still seems to spin at the correct speed. I guess I need a new Vibration Damper, but if anyone has had a similar experience I would appreciate any guidance before I order the part...
