center dash vent removal info needed

guys, I need to remove my center vents in my dashboard. the ones that have the hot/cold controls.
Does anyone know how to do so? I tried prying with trim tools, but it felt like I could break things...

I have a few links for e39 & e38 sedans. The dashes are similar, with minor differences. just go through these links, and they might help you out:

There are two clips built into the bottom of the vent opening pressing down towards the top of the MID/Nav Unit (whichever you have). These are located 4 slots from the left and right, respectively. Insert a very small, flat bladed screwdriver into the center bottom slot of the vent. You will see the clip or retainer in the lower surface the vent. Insert the screwdriver into the edge of the clip and lift slightly. Now gently pull w/ wiggle the vent outward. Repeat on the other clip until the vent is free.

I couldn't do it with a straight screwdriver - the official tool has an "L" shape to it - so I tried the "L" shaped pick from Harbor Freight (two sets cost $4!) and it works like a champ. Get a flashlight in the right place and you can see the tool going into the slot and the tab being pushed up when you start to rotate it. It doesn't take any real force - just finesse. You will need two tools as you have to hold both tabs up at the same time, then you can slide the vent out.
