ilias, welcome to the forum.

Please check the settings on your computer/phone/tablet/whatever-you-use-to-post and see if you can disengage the CAPital letters lock.

There are multiple issues in retrofitting an engine into a car that did not have that engine in the first place. It is possible, even if the engine's size does not fit inside the hood/bonnet - just make a "powerdome" in the bonnet...

However, you are considering going from an N62 engine setup (presumably a facelifted E53 with a 6 speed automatic transmission - guys, what is the tranny model here?) to an S63 engine setup (was S63 mated to the same tranny?)

With enough time (you said, you have plenty of that) and enough money (an unknown factor) it can be done...

you will need to transplant the engine management system as well in order to achieve the desired results - the E53 is one of the last iBus cars while the E70 is one of the first MOST cars, so you will need to make sure that the iBus legacy systems in the E53 (such as speed sensors, ABS module, EGS module, EWS module, etc) can safely and CORRECTLY talk to the DME system of the implanted engine on all levels (even such a small thing as an ambient temperature reading in E53 is transmitted in old format, and you need that temperature info to be delivered to the DME for proper fuel/air mixture)

It can be done... is it worth the time and effort? well, it is your time, your effort - when I was thinking about using an M62 4.4liter engine to revive my old 4.6 car, I did not think that it was worth the time and money, as even both engines were M62, the efforts to match the electronics of the 4.6 liters to properly operate a 4.4 engine were beyond a casual operator of the car...

As a matter of fact, please document your efforts, as I am sure, there will be plenty of people who will be interested in this conversion...

ias051266, WHY ARE YOU YELLING????

It has never been done before. You can be the first to swap those engine. Make sure you document everything so there's a guide when others want to do it.
Best of luck to you.
