Question where is it.??

ok today i decided to do more testing for my dash board trifecta light problem.
been the 4 speed/abs sensors check ok. i've read post were guys were stating that they replace a worn or broken plastic gear in the transfer case fix their problem.well here is my problem on my 2002 x5 3.0i there is no such thing the only 1 electrical wire going inside the tranny nothing else there physically as to a small motor attach to the transfer case.i have enough room to look thru the whole tranny and feel that there is nothing there.??even the tis shows an image of the motor to me it looks like more of AWD style like when i had a chevy astro van AWD

So what is the problem? Looks like you already found the problem. I don't think BMW will make a special X without a transfer case actuator. Could be the PO removed the actuator motor and tried driving it on just 2wd. Did the PO also taper over the trifecta of lights? Transfer case is located at the rear of the trans where the driveshaft will be attached.

Is this the fleet of X's that uses ATF fluid for their AWD Transfer Case?
Compared to the Power Divider (bmw specific) fluid for X Drive Transfer Case.
