Stuck window in the down position. Need help badly.

Hi guys, I know this is for an e46, but the regulators on the BMW's are very similar throughout the model lineup, and every model has the same regulator issue. The fanatics weren't too helpful, so I try my luck here.
My e46 325 5 speed has the passenger door stuck in the down position. The door is all opened up, and I can't reach the 2 screws to take off the window and subsequently the regulator. I tried pulling the window up manually with all my force, while my son was activating the lift button, but no dice - the whole car was moving up, except that goddam window. I am at my wits end, and I have no idea how I can raise it so I can take off the screws from the regulator - that 5 in up position or whatever the height where the screws show is.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like the window is locked down somehow.
can you access the motor wire harness clip to disconnect it and then try to pull the glass plate up?

so the regulator is dead or putting any sound out?
wonder why the window is lodged in there?

My son opened the window to talk to me (I was outside - he was just leaving), then tried to close the window. It's been down since, it didn't budge. You can hear a clicking sound from the regulator motor if you try to close it from the central console. I didn't pay attention where the wires go to the motor, but I will try to look it up and remove the electrical connection. However, the window doesn't budge whether you press to close it or not. Maybe the cable is bind somehow around the regulator?

very very odd. the wires in Bimmers are SO short sadly, I doubt they had room to bind anywhere.
So the back door was opened, (door card/skin) was not off I assume, and he just rolled the window down?
OH BMW and their finicky quirks

Remove the motor and see if the window will move enough to get to the bolts. If not, the cable is certainly bound up and may have to free the cable somehow to get it to move. Its a b-otch but, necssary.

Good Luck!

Yeah. Happened to my E53 and the boss' E90. I fixed them both. Generally when window is stuck some plastic part broke off and the regulators wires come off the pulley. In both cases had to completely unbolt the regulator be4 I could manually move the window out of the way. It was tougher on the E90 because space is limited in door panel.

Hi fmugur,

I had the same issue when the regulator went bad on my old x5. No matter how much force I used, I wasn't able to move the window up to get to the screws. My only option was to cut the steel cables on the regulator. Afterwards, I was able to move the window up and down just fine. Let me know if that worked for you.
