just make sure you use the right tools. ESPECIALLY the fan nut tool. Makes it 100 times easier.

During re-installation, it could be tricky to get the Fan Clutch back on.
Use a tiny bit of anti-seize and see this "poultry cord" (or dental floss) trick I wrote for E39: DIY - Fan Clutch Nut Installation - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums
