Passenger vent blowing but no air

The rear passenger vent is blowing. You can feel the air escape through the cup holder but air is not coming out of the vent. Fan control works fine, i.e. stops and starts the fan but no air flow..

Any clues here?

Thx

You do have the vent turned on don't you? (Knurled wheel on the left hand side of the vent cluster.) I ask because it's not mentioned in your post.

"Fan control works fine, i.e. stops and starts the fan but no air flow." I was referring to that left-side control.

Yeah, you see that's where I obviously got confused - with your description. That left side is not a fan control - it is an airflow control. There is only one fan, up front in the core.

Unless you have recently had the console out and didn't reconnect the ducting properly...I got nuthin

If you open the center console, then carefully pull the black plastic cubby that fits inside, you will notice that there is a black plastic duct underneath that connects to the rear vents. Pull that duct out, add some foam tape to seal better, put it back in place, and you will once again have air flowing through the vents.

This has actually happened to myself as well on my 06 4.4i. There is a black control arm that becomes disconnected on the back side of the vents. I fixed it one night and the next day it popped off again. Control knob works fine, you can hear the air flowing, but nothing comes out. I am going to reopen mine today and I will take pictured detailing work done and repost.

Just to be clear...since some members don't have model/model year/build date info in a signature...there are 2 types of rear air vents for the e53. Some have the optional "rear climate control" which has an extra blower in the vent (located in the center console)...and the dial on the left side turns the blower off/on...plus there's an icon of a fan blade above the dial that indicates to turn the blower on.

As mentioned in the owners manual...the front IHKA control panel still can affect how the air blows from this rear vent. Make sure that you have the DASH VENT selected (not AUTO) if you want the most air this rear vent can give:

(rear vent when the "rear climate control" with blower is optioned on the vehicle)

(rear vent with NO rear climate blower option...just the "I" & "0" icons above & below the left dial)
