axxess aswc-1 install on '01 bmw x5

I installed a aftermarket headunit and I still do not have the steering wheel controls connected. The one that come with it does not work. I am considering getting the axxess-aswc-1 from best buy. Has anyone ever connected one of these to an e53 x5? Which wires do I tap into to get the steering wheel controls to work and what color are they?

I got the PAC SWI-PS for my 2004 X5 with nav. I replaced with a Pioneer unit. It works well. I cannot remember which wire it was to tap into the steering wheel controls (cut the wire), but you do have to do it at the steering wheel not behind the head unit. I tried that and got random signals. Moved to the steering wheel and everything worked fine. I had to search the internet hard to find it. the PAC site has this 'Connect the SWI-PS's Yellow wire to White/Red/Yellow-dots or White/Gray/Yellow-dots' It was very hard for me to tell which one I had, I cannot remember. Good Luck
