Replacement mirror glass

Anyone ever try these replacement mirrors?

NEW BMW X5 E53 3 0i 4 4i Side Mirror Glass Blue Heated W Holder RH 51167039598 | eBay

NEW BMW X5 E53 2000 2006 Side Mirror Glass Blue Heated W Holder LH 51167039597 | eBay

They say they are listed for European vehicles only, but is that because of the blindspot portion? I noticed all sorts of variants on ECS's site, some for auto dip, some not, some tinted, some not.

Just looking to clean up the rust marks and not drop a boat load. Price on these is near throw-away.

Thanks.

Yes...the "Euro" designation is due to them being aspherical (wide angle) mirrors which has the line running done the mirror glass that separates the "visually bent" section from the larger convex section.

But BEWARE...if your X5 has the auto-dimming side mirrors...these ARE NOT direct replacements...they are heated and aspherical...but they don't dim. If you don't know if you have the auto-dimming side mirrors...just look at the circumference of your mirror glass...if there's an obvious thick black band around the mirror glass...then it is the auto-dimming mirror. Also, if you remove the mirror glass from the housing...you will see not only the 2 wires for the heating elements...but another connector for the auto-dimming feature:

(thick black band around the circumference of the mirror indicates auto-dimming mirror)

{mirrors below are the Euro aspherical wide angle/auto-dimming/heated side mirrors front side}

{the mirrors below are the USA version auto-dimming/heated side mirrors - front side - plain glass on the left & convex mirror on the right}

{the mirror below are the USA version auto-dimming/heated mirrors - rear side - note the heating element wire connections & the auto-dimming connector (purple wire)}

The eBay link is selling mirror #1 in the diagram below. These mirrors aren't sold/offered to the USA market...due to BMW NA thinking we can't handle a convex mirror on the driver's side. And sometimes I think they're right...because some Americans freak out when they drive any of my BMWs because I've always upgraded to the aspherical mirrors since they offer a much greater visual range of the traffic to your right & left.

So helpful - that's awesome, thanks. Mine are not auto-dimming. I'll order a set in August, do the install closer to the end of the month and report back. Cheers.

Great.

And check out this link...it's my reply on how to get your MID to do the aux venting for up to 30 minutes without the key in the ignition. If you have the high cluster & high MID...then you have to pull up the TIMER options with the ignition in position 1 (only) to get the VENT ON feature...which is to the left of the 1 TIMER 2 feature: http://www.xoutpost.com/1000579-post32.html

Saw that post, but I don't have that option . I have the basic radio/info unit. If I can find one with the OBC, I'll try a swap, but it isn't urgent.

Are you referring to that you saw my initial post with the Nav monitor...or did you see my later reply as to how to pull it up when you have the MID.

Or are you saying...you no longer have the MID? If you do, and you have the high MID & cluster...then you do have the ability to set to pre-programmed timed events (1 TIMER 2)...or immediate venting for up to 30 minutes...or until you restart the car...which ever comes first.

Again, you can't initiate the immediate venting unless the the ignition is in POSITION 1...any other ignition position...and the VENT ON feature will not appear.

I saw how you did in Nav monitor, then the follow-up on how to for the "standard" radio. I have an even more standard radio without that button that pulls up the 1 TIMER 2 option. Mine is blank when I press that button. My button is a single function, not dual. I do not have the on-board computer option with my radio. I tried in key pos'n 1 and here is what I get.

....and there was some good Floyd on 97.7Htz FM

And back to the mirrors - what is the auto-dip feature (option S430A). Mine does not have S430A nor S760A as per my VIN decode. I think I'll just rip off a mirror and get the part number. Might be easier.

I have similar mirrors to these. Mine were bought off ebay 2 years ago:

BMW X5 ASPHERICAL EURO BLIND SPOT MIRROR GLASS PAIR E53 (130761120548)

I really love 'em. Don't miss the auto dimming as the blue tint is effective at night.

Ah...you have a low (base) MID. That's unusual for a 4.4.at least down here in the lower 48...the V8s all came standard with the high cluster/high MID that has the "clock-face" & BC icon button or the Nav monitor...which would have the extended OBC which has the extra "TIMER" features that would include the aux venting and 1TIMER2 etc. That explains my confusion.
(Are you sure your MID hasn't been replaced with a LOW MID from another e53 or e39?...& do you have the HIGH CLUSTER which has the 20 digit alpha/numeric display? Check your decoded VIN list to see if you have option code S555A ... if you do see that code...then you have the wrong MID installed.)
The S430A "auto-dip" feature is the electro-chromatic mirrors that "dim" when light hits them in darker ambient light. The "auto-dip" nomenclature has thrown BMW owners off for decades. Back in the late 1980s/early 1990s...BMW's first interior rear view mirrors that were designed to reduce glare from vehicles behind you...actully were motorized and "dipped". But as you can imagine...this turned out to be an utter failure and was quickly removed as an option and the new electro-chromatic mirrors came into being. But BMW never dropped the "auto-dip" nomenclature for this feature. On some of the newer generation BMWs...I've seen the terminology "anti-dazzle" used to indicate the EC/auto-dimming feature of the interior & side view mirrors.

I'm not sure if there's no interpretation for the GERMAN use of this technology or what...but again, the "auto-dip" nomenclature never changed over to "auto-dim"....and it is not in reference to the auto-tilt-in-reverse feature of the passenger side mirror.

The S760A option code is for high gloss shadeow line trim. It would reference the black band around your mirrors if you had the high gloss shadow line trim...instead of the S339A mat-finish shadowline or other trim options
