I still have the window sticker and every receipt for any work done from day one. Walked into the dealer to order a 4.6 and they had one exactly as I would have ordered on the floor, and the love story still goes on.

Known as the "OO", original owner. Awesome to know it from new and not have to wonder if it was ever abused by a previous owner.

Yup spot on. Love it when it runs right...nothing better. problem is it does run right for long plagued with check engine lights. The timing chain goes-vanos seals-value seals and all cost 3k or more each. Knowing what I know now I WOULD NEVER BUY a V-8 E53...3.0 is fine if you change the water pump and rebuild the vanos. At 80k every front end part will have to be changed....

You should not buy a V-8 E53. Sorry but true.

I've owned 6-7 BMW's over the years...V-8 E53 is the worst, probably worst than a Yugo.

I still LOVE BMW cars.

It is not necessarily true an E53 is a bad purchase.

My experience with BMWs has been quite the opposite of yours. If that is what I had experienced I wouldn't love BMWs or be driving one.

I hear all that. This truck just got the whole timing chain job done. I am mostly afraid of rebuilding the transmission, even though that would not be the end of the world. Just the cost of doing business with a V8 X5.
I can do suspension, not a problem just a few more $$$.

You must have really had a bad luck with your car.
I've owned e39, e38 now e53 all V8 and I've had only minor problems which are expected from any car
In fact, despite any beliefs, I've had more problems with the 2 E39's 530i's I used to own..
So really it's the way you treat your car. And since bcredliner got his car new and maintained it well, I'm not expecting anything else than really minor issues .

People often forget to change the oil, don't even know what preventive maintenance is anymore ...and when a part or a whole yard of parts go bad they blame the car when in fact it's the owner's fault for lack of maintenance..

One bad experience doesn't reflect to all. Or do I just have the most reliable BMW V8 in my X?

There are many threads about transmission problems. I have not had any. It may be because I replace the transmission fluid every 50,000 miles or because of the Dinan transmission software. With all the engine mods I have done and the way I drive it is certainly not a lack of stress on the transmission.

Every V8 E53 is not riddled with issues and check engine lights.

Over 182k miles and I've seen one check engine light, misfire/fuel cutoff due to an oiled coilpack/leaking VCG, PO NEVER saw it in 100k miles.

The only items needing replacement being FCABs, brakes, tires, one battery, VCGs, waterpump/upper rad hose, coilpack, fluids/filters, headlight washer pump, one brake light bulb, one coolant tank, belts, and FSR.

It's love/love with mine too.

Wanted a 4.6is when I was shopping for an E53 four yrs ago, pick up a 4.4 sport pkg for under 13k. 4.6is in similar condition/mileage/ and same color was 22k. Could not justify 9k + taxes more for the 4.6is upgrade, it's not twice the vehicle compaired to a 4.4 that's never seen snow/ice and optioned out.
