You must have really had a bad luck with your car.
I've owned e39, e38 now e53 all V8 and I've had only minor problems which are expected from any car
In fact, despite any beliefs, I've had more problems with the 2 E39's 530i's I used to own..
So really it's the way you treat your car. And since bcredliner got his car new and maintained it well, I'm not expecting anything else than really minor issues .

People often forget to change the oil, don't even know what preventive maintenance is anymore ...and when a part or a whole yard of parts go bad they blame the car when in fact it's the owner's fault for lack of maintenance..
