NAV Update question

I updated the NAV in my 04 x5 with DSP with a kit I bought from Ebay and I was able to now use 2 DVD disk as opposed to what the PO gave me.

We tried to update my friends 03 X5 4.6is build date 12/02 and it will not read the DVD map CD's after the update will only read CD's any ideas what the problem might be.

Thanks
Norm

Only one of the BMW Nav CPUs uses DVDs (the MK4)...all of the others (MKI/MKII/MKIII) can only use CDs (compact discs).

Upgrading the software doesn't mean that a Nav CPU that can only read CDs...can begin to read DVDs.

Or did I misinterpret your post?

If your friends 4.6is has the MK4 Nav CPU...and its not reading the new DVD map discs...I'd reread the instructions for updating the software (to make sure it's being done correctly)...then try the discs again.

BTW...did you burn your friend a new set of map discs...or were you inserting the new discs that you purchased?

When you put his old map disc back in...does the Nav CPU indicate that the software has been upgraded?

I know you wrote..."it will not read the DVD map CD's after the update will only read CD's" ...but not being there & visually aware of every step taken, I don't know if this means that the software upgrade was checked...or if the procedure was performed, then assumed to have been upgraded.

I read somewhere that you have to have a certain firmware version before going to the latest or downgrading and then upgrading will causes similar behaviour where only CD will be read. Do a search for upgrading procedure online. I did a quick search and I couldn't find it but I am pretty sure I read something like that.

My last dumb question (which will probably be dismissed as already tried as well )...did you guys make sure that you inserted the DVD that was for the section of the No America that you were in?

The 2 disc DVDs are divided east/west...I don't think the other disc does much if you're in the other section:
