On you X5, please verify the part number @ RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog (key in your vin number) and look for "basic module" under Vehicle electrical system => control units, modules, sensors, relays.

You need a programming platform ISTA/p or SSS Progman or other related aftermarket bmw supported platform

Note: The GM3, once you bought it, opened it and programmed it. IT NOT returnable unless it has manufacturing defects. SO MAKE SURE THIS IS THE PART YOU NEED (this not cheap!)
lhordmclain, you really know your stuff thanks for your help. Iīll keep this information with me in case the fuse keeps blowing

Luckily I have I guy 1000Km away who has all BMW diagnose equipment, we became friends some time ago, he had to came here to check and reprogram my ABS module. I have to pay him the plane tickets , food and labour which is not cheap, but the guy is very helpful and helps making possible for me to have two BMW (X5 and a X6 4.0D) far from the rest of the world on the forest! thereīs always a price for adventure I feel safe with these guy 1000Km nearby

But I have to say , much better than this guy , is this wonderful board and its members, you canīt imagine how much money I have already save by consulting this board for the last 6 years, and even better than money saved, is the fact I could have my car back on road in no time. Thanks again to all of you, it can only be possible to have a BMW in far distant place like Africa, thanks to you.

As Ihord mentioned already...the rear door locks are controlled by the GM whereas the front door lock actuators are controlled by each door's control module (SZFT/SZBT).

Help us help you better by creating a signature that includes your model/model year/build date. Or remember to include this information because there are lots of changes during the production run from 1999-2006.

I can't tell from the avatar if you are LHD/RHD (left hand drive/right hand drive)...pre-face lift or face lift...and the rear tail gate actuators changed as well as the location of some of the relays the GM sends data to for the tail gate. But poodinboo's suggestion to check the wiring harness is a good start...but again...the SCA (soft close actuation) feature of the facelift models rear tail gate...created a slight difference in operation.

Again, I'm not sure how accurate the diagram below is because we don't know what your model year/build date is...but you can see how the doors/tailgate/GM III are connected/controlled...and the diagram also gives the build date as to the accuracy of the diagram regarding the tail gate components (which is an example as to why listing your model/model year/build date is important in how specific & accurate the replies/suggestions/recommendations you get from forum members):

@ J.Seven
I know this is an old post but I have the same problem now with a door actuator/lock not working (2003 E53 RHD...UK) nearside front the other 3 doors work as they should,
I tried another NSF actuator/lock and still nothing, I then tried the original NSF actuator/lock in the rear near side door actuator/lock plug and it works

What is SZFT and where would I find it on the E53? (uk passengers side)
is it something that I could fit/fix myself? (novice but will try)

Any info is really appreciated
Thanks very much

Track down the short that's blowing the fuse. It's possible it could be internal to a component but this problem will only get worse until it's find and fixed

Andrew, I think the blown fuse was the OP (from 2014) - not the new poster (in the UK)...

jaima, I think the SZFT/SZBT module is the unit in the front door with the switch on them. Even the passenger side (which only a window switch) controls the passenger-side door locks (front and back). If you have had the lock out of the door, then you have already been handling the SZFT/SZBT module, as you have to remove it to remove the door liner.

Is this your problem?

It does seem likely that either the module or the wiring to the actuator is at fault... does everything else on that door work - windows, mirror etc.?
