p0369 code question

code came on yesterday sitting in traffic. car still drove normal though.

I thought if it was the sensor, it would run worse. could it be the other stuff as mentioned on engine-codes.com (dead/weak battery, bad starter?).

also, this is the one on the exhaust side right? is it attached to the vanos unit or the cylinder head? I have a spare vanos unit I was going to rebuild that has all the attached sensors. was just going to use the one on it if thats what that one sensor is.

If you want to test the sensor before shelling out the bucks, there's a video on Youtube describing how to test the sensor.

you would get more help if you put year, engine, model in your sig. that way we know what type of engine you have ect 3.0, 4.4, ect

ok I've searched youtube and must be searching wrong. I can only find the bentley video where they use the $3k diagnosis system on the sensor. I need the backyard mechanic version.

P0369 IS A CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. this came up on my 3.0i too when I first bought it and the engine was running rough ,so so I checked the oil and it was realy thick and black. someone before me realy neglected the oil on this beast. long story short replaced the oil with 5 w40 full synthetic and ever since then no more code and its been over a year. and yes it has had another oil change since then. I just thought I would throw that out there.

Yeah thats not the issue. I change the oil religiously and had the valve cover off 2k miles ago. its clean inside.

I need this diagnostic video before I spend $100+ on a sensor I dont need

If you had watched the entire video, you would have seen the shade tree mechanic method to test the cam sensor.
