5DEA- Clutch gearbox ECU: Reduction torque intervention because of rub in transfer ge

Although I covered this issue on a different thread I thought the error message in the title might attract more attention.

So, my 4.8is has a noise when accelerating after driving for about 20 minutes. I also feel quite a loss of power as well when the noise happens. The noise goes away after a while but it keeps coming back. It sound like a gear slipping or jerking noise under the car. I cannot tell if it's the transfer case or transmission but it's somewhere in there. This is more when in traffic jam or going up a hill. I have not transmission errors on GT1 and INPA but the DSC throws:

5DEA- Clutch gearbox ECU: Reduction torque intervention because of rub in transfer gearbox.

I feel sometimes that the transmission is generating the noise but I am not sure.
The transfer case oil is new and TC reset and as well as the tranny oil filter with six liters of new oil.

Any tips on narrowing it down?

Last night I unplugged the transfer case connector thinking that turning it into a RWD will eliminated one variable. I still get the noise so I tempt to believe it's the transmission that causing the symptoms...

Could be a symptom of something else, not the root problem.

If there is an intentional power reduction due to an error in the transfer case controller, then you would feel it as you describe.

A search on that code found an X3 with it. In that case, it turned out to be the steering angle sensor intermittently sending data outside of the expected range. The controller ramped back power when it got the extreme steering angle values. Might be worth investigating.

Thanks Jeff. Yeah, I know that thread but the guy mentioned "I have not observed any drivability issues nor strange noises."
I also didn't get any other messages he got.
I will check for steering wheel errors and report back but I DSC is disabled when the TC connector is unplugged. I have the DSC light on on the cluster.
Having DSC disabled the module shuld not care about the steering angle... at least that's my interpretation.

Funny to mention the steering angle sensor.....I just read in TIS that anytime one changes suspension parts, the steering angle sensor should be recalibrated afterwards.......(I did some front suspension repair on the e39).
Maybe the PO did change some front suspension parts, and the installation was a bit "crude"?

I scanned it last night and no steering angle error. I also checked for the status while turning the steering wheel and look for bad values but it was nothing abnormal.
I plugged the connector back and I guess I am back to square one.

Hi fmugur,

Just wondering if you ever found what was the cause of this and what you did to fix it.

Thanks
David

Oh well, the error is still there but I don't get any symptoms. The noise was caused by the resonator. Check this http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...e-start-3.html
