WD40 was a total failure- not a single piece came off. Probably because the paint has been on for nearly 3 weeks? Clay bar sounds more plausible for completely set paint.

3 weeks?
naptha or lacquer thinner should do the trick
No but seriously...get Krud kutter...i use it all the time on overspray of all kinds oil based paints or not..
Test in a hidden area first.
You'll find it at the paint stores: Benjamin Moore, sherwin williams, etc

The reason I suggested a clay bar is that, when used with the proper lubricant, it's completely harmless to the original paintwork. Any polish or "cutter" will both mark the original paint, and remove volume from it. If you want a top finish, that will require further remedial work to cleanup the damage you just did. Any kind of solvent that is capable of thinning the type of paint used on the BMW will damage it - even though the paint is cured.

Clay on the other hand mechanically removes the contaminant. It grabs it and pulls it away without harming the substrate paint in any way, shape or form.

It does this because the white paint (in your case) has not bonded to the original vehicle paint very well. Heck, even a credit card as a scraper would probably remove the white paint - just use a spray bottle of soapy water as lubricant.

How well does it work on cured paint? A previous vehicle (Mercedes ML) got a hit in the right hand front door. Needed new door. The painter did not mask the wheels on the left hand side of the vehicle. They got covered in airborne overspray (which has a couple weeks to cure before I noticed it and fixed it). 15 minutes with the clay bar and they looked good as new.

Ants_oz, everything you mentioned is spot on but using regular soap and water can harm your clear coat finnish. The best thing is using a quick detailer as a lubricant
