I don't recommend keeping a firearm in open site inside the vehicle.

If you're in an altercation and the other person sees it, a call to the PD and a claim that you pulled it on him will have you charged. Had a friend in FL who had this happen. It's a felony offense, kiss the CC permit bye-bye.

^^^good tip Tiag, nothing wrong with center console either.

Love your Pachmayr grip, I have one on my Taurus model 65 short barrel .357/.38 as well and wouldn't shoot without it.

EVERY state thats gone from "may issue" to "shall issue" CC laws has seen a HUGE drop in robbery, carjack, rape and home invasion/B&E stats.

I wonder why!

When intended victims are confronted by a criminal, seconds count, and the police are a phone and minutes away!
These are some hilarious threads that are totally unrelated to X5's. Men frightened of gangs in Chicago to the point of thinking that they'd need guns while in the city. It makes me think of the young ladies on the subway or walking home at 2a.m. armed only their quick wit and intelligence. They aren't afraid. Folks in gangs tend to hang around the same places, where they do their "business". So unless you're out to score some illegal substances, your encounters will be close to nil. If anyone is really that worried about the slim chance of their safety being compromised on the streets...don't forget to wear your helmet when driving around in your X5. P.S. If you guys are really just itching to shoot another person...try Rush St. after the bars close on Friday night. Plenty of frat boys looking to rumble.

Yeah, the Pachmayr grip transformed the feel/control (it's the Combat Pro model). Made it a pleasure to shoot. I put 50 rounds per month thru it and the Sig Sauer P227 .45 ACP I carry.

Not frightened at all, just unwilling to sacrifice my or loved ones safety/lives should an altercation arise.

The fact that criminals "tend to hang around the same places" does not reduce the risk of crime/harm in areas where they don't tend to hang to zero (as if travelers would know what areas of the country are safe).

If you're willing to bet your and your loved ones lives that you will NEVER be in a situation where you would need a firearm, than don't carry.

The comment that ANYONE is "itching" to shoot another person is ridiculous. Responsible armed citizens are "Hoping for the best, and prepared for the worst" in public.

If you could live with yourself knowing that the death of a loved one could have been averted, had you been able to take control of a armed confrontation, than you're a stronger man then me.

Are those hollow-point bullets in the picture? If so, why would you need hollow-points?

I'm sure you are responsible gun owner but there are many reasons why it is illegal to keep concealed gun(s) in the car from most states.

Many people mistake hollow points as "evil". In fact, they are much safer for personal defense. Because of their design, the bullet stops quickly. Energy is dissipated into the target. These bullets don't penetrate walls or people and thereby don't hit your neighbor etc.

Alex35X got it right.

I actually use PDX1 hollowpoints (been loading them since back in the '80s, when they were labeled Black Talons), these are bonded/jacketed. They don't fragment or shed the copper jacket off the lead core when used (expand to over 1.6 cal dia.). Should a person be hit with a round and survive, the ER doctor only has to remove one piece, not multiple pieces.

If I had a choice of taking a hollowpoint round, it would be one that remains intact.

FBI trials showed the PDX1 retains around 99.9% of pre-fired weight.

I was a fed for 10 years here in Aus. I hunted recreationally since I was about 7 years old, and continue to this day. I've shot in the World Police and Fire Games, and the Australia, New Zealand Police Games with a degree of success. Good times. My current firearms collection extends to 5 - 3 rifles and two shotguns. Thinking of getting back into handguns (competitively) this year though, as my son reaches legal age for supervised range use and has expressed a strong interest. The one thing that never ceases to amaze me with those who are anti-gun is their complete and utter lack of knowledge of some of the most basic principles relating to firearms, ammunition, ballistics etc. And that basic lack of understanding is evidenced in the totally inane comments many of them make when speaking out against the use, ownership, carriage etc of firearms. Sometimes you just have to stare, shake your head and think to yourself "Wow, you really ARE ignorant aren't you".
