Cannot turn off "Check brake linings" message
After that, I tried erasing the message through the traditional method (key in pos II for +/- 45 sec, engine off), but it didn't work. Do I need a new wear sensor in order to turn this message off? I thought this message will come on, once the exposed wires in the wear sensor are touching the disk and make a "short"? Even if the wires are exposed (barely) in the sensor that triggered the message, they don't touch anything. Also, when I insert the key in pos II, I noticed the brake warning icon, turns from yellow to red after a few seconds, and stays red. Do I need a new wear pad sensor, or is something else messing with me?

A new sensor will reset the light.
The wire touching the rotor is not what trips the check light, the rotor wears thru the looped wire causing an "open" circuit.

I did my fronts yesterday and replaced the wire... same message. Drove it a few miles for the caliper and came home. Turned the car off then back on and it reset itself.

I had that suspicion, but wanted to be sure. I will have to get a new sensor.

Once you get the CHECK BRAKE LINING warning...the sensor is toast and must be replaced.
Instructions from the BMW TIS on how to reset the brake lining warning:
