Never used it mate. I generally run standard diesel, although will occasionally use Caltex Vortex if nothing else is available.
The fancy diesels available in Australia are just a standard blend, with additional additives. These do things like reduce foaming (makes it quicker to fill and less chance of overflow on some vehicles), and reduce the aroma of diesel (which some people don't like). They also claim additives like "cleaners" which are alleged to remove deposits etc. I won't comment on them - some believe in that kind of snake oil, some don't. I've been using mainly diesel vehicles for around 30 years now, and apart from adding occasional biocide to stop diesel bug, never add anything else and have never had a problem.

Similar comments to Ants made in my post in the Australia forum......I'm calling snake oil.
Just a great marketing response to an increasing amount of consumers purchasing diesel passenger vehicles. Taps into the existing market equity of the unleaded premium fuels..... 'Vpower/Ultimate/Vortex' etc. Would love to be shown otherwise - if it had a higher cetane rating which could be capitalised upon with an ECU tune, I'd be buying a full tank before I take my car to HPF for a remap. Two thread in two posts.....do you work for BP Arrowskarta9x?

I'm pretty sure in the US we just have diesel. I only used a diesel car for a couple months and in the few times I put fuel in it I don't even remember anything on the big green button other than "DIESEL". So it is interesting to hear that they try to mimic a tiered structure. We have a pretty small market up here.

Slightly off-topic, but if anyone ever invented a handle for the diesel pump that didn't make your hand stink of diesel after a fill, I reckon they would be on a winner. Because diesel is so oily, it sticks to everything. Market research has apparently shown that "dirty diesel pumps" are one of the biggest hurdles in the way of consumer takeup of diesel vehicles in the USA. People are slowly getting over that here.

As for BP Ultimate I have never found it makes enough of a difference to be worth the extra money. I think it's 48 Cetane instead of 45 and has extra additives but that's all.

Thats right, There is alot of different opinions on this topic and from what you hear is that the BP Ultimate has a higher cetane rating than any of the other diesel fuels available in Australia. I just want to put the best fuel in my X5.
Thanks Smokey, Joshdub and Anthony, Chris. |
