OT Oil Price Thread

So my I'm doing a Vanos repair on my other car this weekend, and the procedure calls for a quart of oil. I only had about a 1/2 quart left over from previous oil changes so I needed more. Instead of paying almost 10 bucks for a quart of Mobile 1 euro, I decided to go back to walmart to purchase 5 quarts for 21.96 like I did last time. They had a different display. It was placed with valvoline and another brand. All three brands were 25 bucks for the 5 quart jugs. So the price went up 3 bucks, no biggy, it's still a killer deal.

So is oil going up? Gas prices in my area have been dropping steadily over the past few months..... Was this last summer the only time we were seeing the 22 dollar price? I'm thinking about going and picking up a few more for next summers oil changes. What's your thoughts?

I pick up the gallon jugs of Rotella T6 at Walmart for about $21 for the X5, and pick use 5 quart jugs of 0w-30 Mobil 1 for the wifes Rav4 for about $25? I forget actually

Either way yes buying your oil in bulk jugs at Walmart sure is smarter

I am not sure there is a direct correlation to a jug of oil vs current world oil pricing, or even US gasoline pricing...

That stuff in a bottle or jug is pretty specialized, and a few other factors eg distribution pricing, distributor costs, some/most brands not on sale in a given week, etc., have some bearing on spot retail pricing.

For the cost of oil used in an annual change, (or twice a year+ for the obsessed), of ~$25 a jug, I am not sure I would hoard it to save money.

Otoh, I suspect I have a couple three gallons of oil, with varying viz/brands, parked in my two garages.

It's been $25 for 5 qt jugs of Mobil 1 for years here in TX.

Just picked up the 5w-20 M1 and Bosch Distance Plus filter for the Accord oil change, $40. The CEO wonders why I spend $40 and DIY when I could get it done for 1/2 that at an Iffy Lube. I gladly spend the extra $s to know it's done right (no stripped plug/filter not changed/no oil fill ruined motor) with the best materials possible.

Ditto here in northeast Indiana...the normal price for a 5 qt jug of Euro M1 0w40 is $25.17...and it goes on sale for around $22 when Walmart "rolls back" the prices.

A couple of months ago...it went on sale here and I picked up four 5 qt jugs for my two Bimmers (plus took a pic of the sale price):

(normal price)

(sale price 8/8/2014)

Looks like it was on sale when I purchased it over the summer. Nice. I was thinking the price was going to start creeping up but, it doesn't appear that way.
