Smoke cloud after idle...

Hey guys, I've been reading a lot on here about other members having problems with the N62 engine smoking after idle. I have a 2006 BMW X5 4.8iS with 107k miles. Mine started doing it a couple months back and finally got around to getting into the shop. By the way this is a pampered car that has had a good life.

I had my crank case vent valves replaced about a month and a half ago. This did not help mine at all. Still smokes. I tried running a thicker oil for about 3 weeks with some seal additive that makes seals swell with no luck.

Called around to compare prices and different indie shops and took it in. They replaced the valve seals, said they were all worn and cracked pretty bad. The valve guides are straight and did not need to be replaced. Hoping this fixes the problem, just wanted to get on here and let you guys know.

This job is going to cost me 4K....looks like I'm keeping the X for a little longer. But I love it and couldn't let it go! I asked the mechanic at he shop if this would end up being a recall, he said most likely "no" because it's not safety related. He said if they were going to issue a recall they would have done it already... I hope he is wrong.

Am I crazy to buy an X5M for my next pavement pounder? I have a feeling if I want to keep buying X5's they have to have low miles and have an extended warranty, then when they hit 100k miles its time to upgrade...

Hope this helps! Thanks for all the info guys, this site is great.
