What is this I found unplugged?

Just crawling around under the X tonight and found an electrical plug into the transfer case that look suspicious. It was unplugged and just sort of sitting there. I sort of blew on it and wiped it off and plugged it in fully. Anyways, I've circle the connector below. It came off of a bigger cable. Drivers side about in line with the side view mirror. Thoughts? What it is for?

Set, classification resistor part Number 27107557345 on the transfer case motor.
