Dead Battery...FSR?

My battery keep dying over night, I drive the truck regularly and I don't have any erratic issues with my blower/ heating and cooling issues.

Alternator read fine, any thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks

Is your battery 3 years old or older? If so, you may want to invest in a new one, at least have it checked as a starting point.

You may have a parasitic battery drain.

These things can be tricky but isolating the circuit causing the issue if it isn't just an old battery is what you need to do.

It can get involved and if you are not comfortable with diagnosis of electrical issues a good tech can figure the problem out.

Here is a link for a pretty through approach of the battery checks out as ok....

Good luck.

hi , ok got battery issue of my own but wont dwell on them, am still diagnosing my problem , Powers1 and bcredliner have pointed me in the right direction check all fuses in glove compartment and rear with multimer (with car off of course), see if any show amp loss....they mention common issues is the phone fuse 74 at rear, and I am hearing that afgermarket gps alarm systems can be an issue....i have one but cant find it as is concealed by company that installed it for previous owner...!

FSR is quoted as another one causing drains but not sure how to test apart from pulling out (not easy apparently) sorry i couldnt be of more help..keep us posted

Thanks for the info guy's, battery was new less then a year ago, actually when it went, I thought it was a power draw. but the battery test came back that the battery was no good. Fast forward 9 months later and its getting drained. I tested the battery and it's fine, it was just in a discharged state. My temp solution is keeping a charger on it over night and I ordered an FSR on ebay...figure I'd try that for $40 first.

In regards to testing for draw, doesn't the truck need to be in sleep mode for 15 min first. Does that mean sitting in the trunk for 15 min...that's nuts...I don't know about you guy's but I've had my X5 for 5 years now and I have a love hate relationship with it. Its only got 130,000 KM and its had it's share of issues which I would not expect from a "high end" vehicle.

hello, testing for draw as Powers 1 mentioned, 16mins x5 should go to sleep, no need to sit in the car just don’t close the passenger side door, so you have access to the glove box fuses later, don’t engage locks though at any point or you’ll wake x5, and at the rear engage the tailgate lock….then start testing after 16mins or less.

I am guessing if the orange Light near the gearshift is off then the X5 is asleep so start when that goes off.Well my X5 has 90,000km and yup love hate! It was 10 years old 2 days ago….and yes for a high end car there are too many niggly irritations…i have posted 1000 time son the forum1let us know how it goes with the fsr and if you had any symptoms of it going bad….in mine I have not noticed or heard any tell signs that mine is bad i.e humming noise fan makes in aircon control area after car sleeps, although I have blown my multitmeter I think, so cant test amp draw on fuse 64 that’s the fsr fuse!

I have pulled the cd changer fuse and the telephone fuse (even though don’t have phone) and will remove the connections to my auxiliary heater too cos it is just tooooo warm out here to be needed, failing that could by the gps tracker that previous owner had installed in 2006 may have gone wrong causing drain but cannot find it! Am hoping company who installed will tell me where it is….sorry to hi-jack post

The non-Genuine BMW FSRs on e-bay are JUNK!!!

I went the $40 e-bay FSR route 4 yrs ago. The unit failed in a few mos and was returned to seller for replacement, the replacement failed in a few WEEKS!!!

Replaced with Genuine BMW FSR and no issues in over 3.5 yrs.

Belts, hoses, gaskets, electronics need replacement? Save yourself the frustration of re-troubleshooting/doing it again by replacing with Genuine BMW items.

So I got busy and forgot to plug the battery charger into my truck last and miraculously it was fine this morning...now I'm really stumped. Are the peristaltic draw problems intermittent usually?

Possible but nears the category of rare. Hope not, very hard to find if that is the case. Was the battery test a load test and have you been monitoring the alternator output via the cluster to see if it is normal? Did your daily drive time change the previous day? In other words, I am suggesting to start over with troubleshooting the battery and alternator to confirm they are eliminated if it is possible they are not.

The gearshift light--some it goes off when X goes to sleep, some it does not. Even in a given year it may or may not go out.
