Exclamation 01 X5 4.4i is it worth the repairs?

I have an 01 X5 4.4i is it worth the money in repairs and all the time I'm gonna put into it to fix it ? My water pump just went, and my power steering has been failing and it leaks a little I always have to top it off. I'm only going to fix what needs to be repaired I will also fix the ball joints cause I hear a knock on the right hand side front passenger, I repaired the sway bar link and It went away but now it's back. What do you guys think should I repair it and put the time into it ? Or should I just sell it? It has 237k Kms alpine white with aero package fully loaded with leather and nav. When I first bought it I got it for 6700. Thoughts and opinions ?

sounds like you're already over it to be honest.

you're just trying to justify it in your head.

me? I personally keep cars until I'm utterly disgusted with them or they literally fall apart so to me its worth it to fix a part if I'm going to get another 100k out of it.

Here in the states... aero package would make it a pretty desirable SUV I would think. The repairs you mention would not cost that much to do yourself. If you like the vehicle and can do the repairs yourself... I'd keep it. But if you are ready to move on... I understand that too.

These things (and most vehicles) are not investments. You are going to lose money on most of them. Just decide how much you like the truck and if you are okay putting money into it. We can't make that call for you really.

I was debating keeping it a bit more if I can get atleast 2 years from it, let me remind you I live in Calgary Canada this place gets to -30c easy and we get tons of snow. It's a really nice SUV and I just want reassurance in a sense that it'll be worth it? I'm at 237k Kms id want atleast another maybe 100k

Carlos, I LOVE my X5.
I've got 178,000 kms and its still going strong but I'm a fan of maintenance right then and there as soon as something breaks.
these SUV's are not meant to be thrown away after a few years, as long as the maintenance has been up-kept.
I look at it this way... it may cost $3k to repair at a mech (say as a high high cost) but once that is done you have a great luxury vehicle still.
what other vehicle will you get for $3k with the same luxuries? you won't
you'll need to spend a lot more money for a nice vehicle OR you buy a junker for $3k and in this city, good luck on a nice junker for $3k.
I'd say pay the bill (or do yoursef, if you're able) and keep smiling over winter.

That's the key - fix it when it breaks, stay on top of the repairs, do some/most yourself if you can. Otherwise the list grows and gets harder to justify if you have a better half or budgeting committee

We have a 00 X 4.4i 246300 kms which was a nightmare and its repair list is impressive.Despite that we still love it,and compared to new to us e61 sports wagon,X has something that makes us want to keep it longer.
Although it needs a transfer case chain replaced, some paint job, here and there some silly plastic stuff replaced.Thankfully 00-03 have less electronics that the facelifted ones, which means if you replace mechanical stuff with a good brand/quality part you will have a nicely running relatively simple SUV.Which after a while will be so predictable in terms of maintenance and repairs.
At least it's what I think and feel. Our X is originally from Edmonton and now it goes strong through the Maritimes' snow and freezing rains.
