Does the E53 have door plugs?

Hi All,

My 3.0i passenger door has developed a fault. None of the electrics work, nor central locking and the dash computer keeps telling me the door is open when it is not.

I have been advised that it may be the door plug that may have corroded.

Does anyone know where the first place to start looking for this would be?
Or any other suggestions as to what the issue is?

Many thanks in advance
Imy

Where did you come across the term door plug?

Most likely the wiring harness from the door to the car is chafed and now you have a open circuit for some components and a short for the door ajar warning.

At the front of the door and where the front of the door meets the jamb of the car body.

Its cleverly hidden behind a rubber boot, and attached with a 8mm boly to the forward door jamb. My X5 has an airbag code, says the wiring is shorted out. (no resistance) I suspect that i nicked the airbag wiring on some sharp surface inside the door when i replaced my door shells. I would have used the old harness, but my doors had more options (power folding mirrors etc) and the old wiring was quite dirty! silly me, now i am going to have to replace the Airbag wiring, with the old stuff! (i will clean it first, and double check continuity !)

Here's a video on the "Door Plug". The car is a 5 series BM Trouble U but our X is very similar. If you don't want to watch the entire video look at 2:00

many thanks all. great information and gives me a starting point.

I doubt it will be an actuator since it is affecting all of the electrics in the door i.e. window, folding mirrors and just changing the mirror position.

I have a similar issue and I took the door harness and body harness apart and found two contacts in the harness plugs corroded to the point of being gone. Just to be sure this is what caused my non-working door lock and window I connected the missing leads with jumper wires and everything started working again.

Now I just need to figure out which pins to order to fix things!

If the car thinks the door is open though, those things won't work. So a bad actuator can cause those things.
