4.6is guage cluster in a 3.0 ... possible???

Wondering if anyone here has ever tried installing a 4.6is cluster (with the lights on the tacometer in the yellow and red line area)
I was toying with making that my next superfluous upgrade!
failing that i may just go for a "high OBC cluster" and call it a day!
thanx all! (yes i searched but nothing about the elusive 4.6is cluster is out there! (my X5 is a 2003 )
thanx again!

Dunno for sure either, but a BMW tech posted he could make it work, but it seems a bit involved though.

See post #11 here

The Bimmian gray gauge faces and rings pull off the "iS" look nicely, but I've read horror stories of broken gauges during install, so it gives me pause.

If you get an "iS" cluster to work in your 6cyl, do post up how!

For the 8cyl trucks, as I understand it is a lot easier, you just need the right cluster (4.6is for pre-2004's, 4.8is for 2004-up) and a bit of coding.

Should be similar to swapping an M5 cluster into a 5-series.
Good luck.
The M5 cluster retrofit

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
It's possible but you'd have to get dealer to recode module and recode cluster with mileage for the car to accept it and tamper dot not be on. You can do silver gauge faces, rings, and sharpie the needles red for under $100 and have 98% of the look

Oh, and IIRC no matter how you code, the oil temp and variable rpm lights will not work on a 3.0 because it requires the oil temp sensor signal which the 3.0 ECU does not supply to the cluster.

You can install it, but the lights for the oil and the oil gauge won't work. I have an m5 cluster in my 7. And I've installed 4.6 clusters in e39's

^cool! Is it PnP besides coding? All functions except the oil temp and variable redline lights working?

Yes. Just need to code your vin into it with pasoft. Then use dis 4.4 or ncs to code your cars zcs

thanx , if i manage to get it together, i will post a detailed photo essay on it!
i was hoping to get the oil pressure / redline lights working, but if not, maybe just some cool guage rings!
