I guess it's still possible that both mats are shorted but maybe it's something else after all. I'm sure there is a way to test with a multimeter if your getting power. Perhaps e38flagship is the man to ask as he seems to know his wiring

appreciate all the responses I do have a multimeter which I will give a go tomorrow. Does the bus channel produce any voltage that I could test as well?

I'm not sure how the bus works to be honest e38/39 use a very simple way of wiring the switches, they use a switched power kinda like a radio and that allows you to activate the switches. The short doew not make sense to me as a shorted Matt will throw a "code" the switches turning on and off indicate there is an issue with the matts. to me I sounds like a bus fault so jumping that wire would tell you that it has no bus signal, to me it sounds like no bus or a bad switch cluster but the switches being bad seems odd I've never seen that happen before and I can't see the other switches working correctly if that was the issue. Let me know if you get anywhere jumping that bus wire and we will go from there, I'm assuming you checked all your fuses but double check them all again on key 2 with a test light even ones unrelated to heated seats, also does your memory work for the seats? Mirrors work? Windows ect ?

Also if the wiring harness is not plugged into the seat you will have no green lights, under your seat you will see a yellow black connector unplug them and make sure the connectors from the seat are all plugged in "you will understand better once you unplug the harness" each little connector comes out of the seat harness the seat make sure the heated seat one is in it has 3 mins colors from the seat I believe are those green and brown we talked of earlie, from main harness green purple large wire large brown and small wire if you look at the link I put on here the pins corrispon to those colors

Well its taken sometime and after a few weeks of trying everything, I didnt have the right tools to check voltage etc so took the car in to a local specialist. It was down to the iBus signal as stated in this thread so many thanks to that. looks like a broken wire which was fixed and all working now.

Now on to the telephone bluetooth from what I have been told seems like its the module in the back everything else checks out but the unit will not go into pair mode even with the MBW scanner software.

I followed a number of different combinations to get this into pairing. Hold the center console button for three seconds and the turn to IGN to 1 and also tried 2. Cant get the system to go into pairing mode just says activate phones. I cleared the 4 that where already paired via the BMW scanner software and also tried to pair it through that as well but still just displays activate phone. Also pulled the fuses and left them out for 30mins still no joy.

My guess is a new/ebay unit is it a simple case of unplug and plug the new one in or does it require some configuration when swaped?

thanks

When active phone flashes after turning to key 2 go into your phone and Bluetooth settings click the bmw one for your car and you will be prompted for a code the code is on the module if you can't find it in your records its 4 numbers it will say "PK" and will be followed by 4 numbers

Bring this from the dead, but any idea of what the actual iBus signal wire is and where to find it?

My X3 has a similar issue, the passenger side works without issue. The drivers side if I press the switch nothing happens - no lights at all. I have a feeling it might be this exactly as you have but I am unsure where to find this signal wire to check?
