Here’s some information from Bimmerforums (E39) that shows it to be the Active Cruise Control (ACC) light. Supposedly an option not available in the US at the time.
Source: Dash indicator "two car" light...what is it? ![]()

This pic was from a 2006 e53 4.8is cluster, Canadian version. It must have a sensor for the distance. Is this system retrofitable?
Where would the RDC light go?

As you can see in the image, not only does the "following cars" illuminate...there's an extra icon for the green cruise control...as well as special icons that appear in the instrument cluster display. You will definitely need the ACC sensor which is mounted in the front bumper...and different cruise control buttons that allow you to activate the system...as well as the fuses etc...and possible ZCS coding since the ABS system will also be involved. (ACC sensor in front bumper of a Euro e38) ![]() Again, your 2006 doesn't have the Flat Tire Monitoring system that uses illuminates the button down below the IHKA? ![]() From 4/04 build date...the Flat Tire Monitoring sytem uses the yellow tell-tale light that illuminates in the button below the IHKA: ![]()

This is not mine but it caught my attention. The vin of that X5 is LE84292 but I cannot figure out the what option would that be... unless I overlooked it.
Mine was manufactured in 07/04.2004 and it has the tire button and also the flat tire light in the same spot on the cluster.
