Steering wheel moved
I replaced the steering angle sensor a few months ago tonight the warning lights returned BUT when I drove into the driveway the steering wheel was not centered? With the wheels straight ahead.... the steering wheel is now pointing up/down vertical instead of horizontal (90% of a difference) Could the steering shaft have moved? or Could the steering wheel itself have moved? Any info appreciated plz see photo, wheels are aligned straight. |

Maybe a bad tie rod or the coupler from the steering shaft to the rack? I wouldn't be driving it until you get it fix.

This is really unusual. It looks like your steering wheel moved to the wrong side of the car! I'm not sure how to fix that, but it looks dangerous, I wouldn't drive it.

I defo wont drive it, I think I will take the panel off
below the steering wheel to see if the coupler on the rack has slipped/moved ? I hope its that but I doubt it? possibly a garage job as it minus degrees here in Glasgow and I dont fancy lying on the ground under the car. Thanks for the input |

I hope your comment about the steering being on the wrong side of the car was an attempt at humour. There are people on this forum that take every posting very much seriously.

The steering column has a shaft in it with a spline. The steering wheel has a matching spline. If the bolt wasn't attached tightly, I could imagine it wobbling loose which would let the steering wheel jump on the spline. I wouldn't just tug on it to test it as you could damage the airbag wires if you simply try to pull it off. This situation is bad.
You would need a big shift in the steering linkage to get that much rotation of the wheel. Hard to imagine without hitting something hard that you ought to remember. Good luck. I would second the comments that it is not safe to drive like this.

I know of several owners with RHD Lotus so they drive on the right side of a car and on the right side of the road.
