programming key issue

Figured it out, only need to put one key in the ignition then press the buttons for both remotes.

My 02 X5 only came with one key, I ordered a new key from the dealer, programmed it following the procedure found here Program and Reprogram Your Car Remote Key Fob Control Transponder - Program Your Keys Free Instructions - BMW X5 Key Remote Control Fob Programming which worked however the original lost its ability to lock/unlock the doors. I tried switching same issue one would work and the other wouldn't. Is there a trick I'm missing?

thanks for your help, would like to avoid the dealer, their service is terrible.

Yeah dont worry, its simple, you just have to do the same to the other key within 15 seconds or so... Hmm looking at the link its somewhat right i think, but take a look at this one instead:
http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...ob-bmw-x5.html

Try the turning it to position 1 5 times then doing it

I think thats what i had to do with mine

How to Initialize or Program BMW old style & new style Keys

These instructions only program BMW keys to lock/unlock (central locking) & arm/disarm (alarm siren system). This has NOTHING to do with EWS (the immobilizing system that deals with the ability of the key to START the car).

In fact, you can take ANY BMW keys that look like the ones below...if they are fully charged, they can be programmed to lock/unlock & arm/disarm your car (FZV/DWA)...even though they are from another BMW. But doing so will not allow that key to start your car (EWS). EWS is car & VIN specific...the transponder chip inside the key will only work with the car & VIN it was assigned as the car rolled off the assembly line.

TIP: KL R = ignition position 1

I'm confused....Does the bottom NOTE: section mean that I need to reinsert each key into the ignition IN ORDER of programming after doing the pushing button procedure to finalize them correctly? Like....right after pushing remote buttons to program....then put first key in...on then off... remove....second key in....on then off....remove...third key in....on then off...remove.....correct?

No...do not insert any of the other remote keys into the ignition...only insert the 1st remote. All other remotes...start programming on STEP 3 (where you start pressiing the buttons) as indicated in STEP 6.

If you insert another remote in the ignition and turn it off/on...then you are telling the GM that you are starting over....so any key that had previosly been programmed will no longer lock/unlock & arm/disarm the vehicle (remotely).

The "note" is referring to when you have programmed car/key memory features (like saving seat positions) into each individual remote for multiple drivers of the same vehicle. In this case, each key is numbered, thus if you program them out of order, then you can lose the program for each driver. But again, if there are no specific memory programming for each key...the order you program them doesn't matter...just don't stick the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th remote into the ignition.

The "note" is referring to when this specific type of key programming has been done using BMW DIS/GT-1/MoDiC (or aftermarket software/hardware):
