E39 M5 will soon be an appreciating classic so buy the best stock example you can afford. Just two words for you.....Carbon buildup.....or is that three. Good luck!

Not really. That issue was on the early e39 M5 iteration. BMW solved that issue for the 2002 & 2003 year models.

I would think an E34 M5 would be more of a classic since that was the last of the handbuilt M5 series.

Thus the nature of 'speculative investment'. Both great cars.

2001 BMW M5 E39 Nice and rare Silverstone. However, picture shows sport seat so I assume sport interior, but seller lists extended leather. Oil change every 1500-2000: what a waste. K&N high performance oil filter: I would rather use Mann or Mahle.

2001 BMW M5 This one has been on CL for a few months now. Thread on bimmerforums
GL with your decision.

This is when it gets hard when you have to practice patience with that money in your pocket.

Do yourself a favor if you havent already is to live on the m5board and look for all known issues and put together a PPI checklist for yourself, there is way more than carbon buildup you need to be on lookout for in the M5's.

I keep upgrading my wife's BMW. I just can't seem to let go of my 4.6. I do like the M5, nice choice. Hope you find just what you want, less chance of seller's remorse that way.
