ESG module not coded to my VIN?

Guys,

I've discovered (now that I have INPA) that my car's EGS module is not coded with the VIN of my car, but another one.

It seems it got tosted a long time ago and someone replaced it with another but it was not coded to my VIN.

So, 2 Questions here:

1) Is there any chance to code it to reflect the correct VIN and stuff? If yes, then how?
2) Are there any implications/issues about using it like that? I meant, is like that since... I don't know how long, but it has to be way way back in time since the last owner didn't know about it.

Thanks!

Shouldn't matter. Up until my 6 speed swap I used a steptronic shifter and sport egs in my e38. I never coded it with my vin. Just installed it and went.
I doubt there will be any benefits to coding it.
As for software to code it if you desire, I suspect dis4.4, Progman, or possibly pasoft.

It's easy, just use SSS to encode the EGS by manualy input, not automaticaly.

Thanks guys! I will look into having Progman installed and will look for entering the VIN manually.
