2000 X5 erratic heater

Looking for some guidance here. My 2000 X5 has the duel climate control panel and is having issues. The unit goes on and off especially within the first 15- 20 min of starting car. if you try to increase or decrease the temp it goes off, if you change fan speed it goes off. This goes on for 15 min or so. Then it kinda stabilizes and system works. I have changed the final stage relay ( twice) and this did not help the issue. It kinda just has a mind of its own on / off then eventually it works properly. I suspecting its the actual digital display panel on the dash behind the button panel that I also replaced. Thoughts suggestions ?? Really don't wanna just throw parts at this thing. Thank you

based on your description, i can only speculate that the system stabilizes when it is warmed up - this makes me think about a failing component that is not stable when cold but once warm, works fine, or some cold soldering joints...

have you tried to blow canned air into the griddles on the face of the IHKA?

finally!!, someone else with the same problem that I had on my 01 4.6is. It seemed like when the cabin would warm up the heater would work just fine, it was when the cabin was cold and the heater had to work a little harder that it would turn itself off and on. I still don't know to this day what it was. I replaced the module twice and the FSR once.

My issue also occurs when its hot and want to blast A/C to cool down. it will go on and off for a good 10-15 min then poof work just like its suppose to.. Even beating on the dash doesn't help LOL. Wish i knew what to replace ?

yea, I know the feeling of beating everything around the control panel within an inch of it's life. My AC worked just fine, it was just when the heater was on and it was say below 40 degrees out. not because of the temps but because the heater was trying harder to warm up the car. My theory was that a steppar motor was bad causing a flap not to open and then causing something to overheat.
