Yes, still here. I had run a few cans of Seafoam through the fuel system this summer before the issue resolved itself with the fuel change. I'm tempted to go back to one tankful of Gulf fuel to see if the condition returns, or it was a freak coincidence...

Welcome back from the edge.
There is a lot of poor fuel running issues on this forum and others. I only run Shell or Sunoco myself from high volume stations. The real challenge is on the road, you get what is in their underground tank. Who knows, could be anything from home heating oil to good stuff.

Yes I did.
It appears that all the issues were caused by stuck piston rings. I uses some Liqui Moly engine flush and it got better. Did it again with an oil change and still better. Now I do an engine flush at every oil change and have no more problem.

I bought a 04 x5 with a leaking sunroof and I had I kinds of problems that I chased. However what the cause of many of my problems was the roof leaked into the glove box and it had leaked into the fuse box. When I pulled it out I could see corrosion inside the on the circuit board. I found one on ebay for $32. The best money I ever spent.

One other thing to try is unplug you ABS and drive it. I have found that there are alot of thing attached to it. That is a easy test and it doesn't cost anything.

I did a Liquimolly engine flush at my last oil change. Wow! What a difference. Went from using a quart every 100 miles to I'm over 3000 miles and haven't used a full quart yet. I'll do another Liquimolly flush at my next oil change. I do one every 5000 miles. I'll be thrilled if I can get to using 1 quart in 5000 miles.

Yes the flushing also reduced my oil consumption. Not as drastically as yours but noticeable.

I goofed and left a zero off. 100 should have been 1000. Still a significant difference.

My misfire hasn't returned since switching fuel brands, however I'm burning a quart of oil at regular intervals. Right after an oil change (Total Quartz Long Life 5-30) i get about 1800-2000 miles before needing a quart, then about another 1000 miles until it needs another quart. It maintains for there at about a quart per 800-1000 miles until the next oil change (every 5000 miles).

I think I will try the LiquiMoly flush at the next oil change... i don't think it will hurt anything.
