Boot lock operation
I can't figure out the boot lock on my X5 2003 (pre facelift).
When the car is fully unlocked I can open the boot using the handle on the boot itself. If I use the key fob, the boot lock clicks THREE times but doesn't open unless I am lifting the boot lid at the same time as pressing the fob. If I use the button on the dash, the boot lock clicks TWICE but again won't open unless someone is at the boot lifting the lid at the same time. This doesn't seem like normal operation to me, I would of expected the boot lid to unlock AND open slightly when using the key fob or button.

No, sounds like the remote opening machanism is dodgy. If youre still under warranty then youre covered. This happened on my Audi, guy in the shop said it was a common problem.
