Question Airbag went off in my driveway!!!

G'day People,
New to site. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this happening. I have an 02 3.0 Sport fthat I,ve had for 3 months. Today I backed my X5 down the driveway to hook on my boat. Stopped (left engine running), got out and opened tailgate, got hitch out and put it in towbar, got back in car to reverse the rest of the way and as soon as my arse touched the seat BANG airbag went off in my face! Luckily I only recieved minor injuries, and thankgod it didn't happen 10 minutes later as I would have been doing 110Km/h on the highway with my boat on the back.

I rang BMW Australia and they are coming to get the car from my driveway (It won't start). They didn't want to discuss it to much but started to be alot nicer when I informed them I used to be a mechanic. I found one example of this happening where BMW wanted the lady to pay for the repairs if she refused to sign their connfidentiality agreement. Here's the adress for the story: http://www.thecarolinachannel.com/au...46/detail.html

I am really sad this has happend as I bought the car for my wife and now she say's she will not drive again.

Any further info on this occurence would be great.

I have also just fitted an Alpine 10" sub with amp and have found a great way to make a sealed enclosure that gives 23ltrs volume and fits in the rear right comparment that can be removed with four screws. It works that well that I was thinking of getting a plastics company to make some up off mine if anyones interested.

Sorry to hear mate and glad you weren't seriously hurt. Your case is eerily similar to that infamous (lawsuit) case. Hope they come up with an explanation of the cause.

Keep us posted.

Matt,

Sorry to hear about the airbag issue with your X. I can fully understand why your wife would have concerns with driving it in the future. Let us know (assuming you don't sign a non-disclosure ) what they find.

Also, I'd be interested in more details on the sub enclosure if you can share them. Pics would be great, too.

:welcome: to X5world

Jeff

Bummer about the airbag...
I'd be interested in hearing more about the sub... also would like to see some photos.
