What were the things they checked for? I sa is cool but I don't think he's as cool as yours was.

This was my thread about it:

1) Upper Oil Pan Leak (engine has to be lowered) - 14 hours labor - est cost $4K
2) Crank Case Coolant Pipe Leak - 45 hours labor (I think I wrote this down right) - est cost $7K
3) A/C System - New Evaporator (pressure check; tech checked temp in center vents at 60 degrees--driver vent blowing 60 but passenger vent was 78) - 17 hours labor - $4K cost

Good thing your SA was willing to help you...wow...I can't believe that the crank case coolant pipe is so labour intensive...

That is the worst problem (nightmare) of N62 engine. Fortunately there is a company in San Diego that manufactures a smart-a$$ pipe that lowers the cost from ~$7k to ~$2k.
The Bimmer Pipe

I believe on that one they had to lower the engine to get to it if I remember correctly.

The heads and the front timing covers must be removed to replace that pipe. Same as replacing the timing chain
