I just got this letter for my 2008 4.8 X5. I had a problem with the fuel delivery system when the SAV was maybe one of two years old. I was toward the end of a 3K trip and was left stranded on the freeway until a tow truck eventually took me to the nearest dealer (150 miles or so).

In any event, can I not have the dealer check this sort of thing for me? I know how to put gas in the tank but that's about it for me!

I have just received "Limited Warranty Extension" for the Fuel Pump. Apparently BMW says it is not a call to service or a Recall.

Yeah!

Long story short:
Look in your mail for document: B-ELWR 2015 In-tank Fuel Pump

Good luck to all of you who did not have to make this repair, for me it's time to get some $ back.
Hi Gregg3gs,

I'm having the CEL and P0456 EVAP EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK. VERY SMALL LEAK for the past couple of days on my 2007 4.8i.

I just got the BMW In-tank fuel pump letter today. Are you pretty sure, it's my fuel pump that's the issue. My X5 is out of warranty, and would hate for BMW to over charge me for diagnosis fees if it's not the fuel pump.

Thanks.

Did you get the letter yet?

Also, remove the seat and pump cover followed by connector.
If it's burned you found the problem.

you're not gonna believe this, but I feel like the biggest idiot. So like i sad, I started getting the CEL and P0456 code couple of days to go. I come home yesterday and found the letter about the extended warranty on the fuel pump.

So I found your thread and a few others about the burned connector. I'm thinking it must be my problem too. So I just spent my Saturday morning pulling up the backseat to check my connector.

My connector is perfectly clean, no burn marks. I'm think well that's good, at least it's not the fuel pump.

I thought why don't l just check my gas cap to make sure it's nice and tight. Popped the lid, and my to surprise NO GAS CAP.

I was almost too embarrassed to post a follow-up to your question. What a coincidence! I get the letter within days of getting the CEL and error code.

Thanks for posting the DIY, at least I know my fuel pump connectors are in good shape.

No worries, no one here is judging.

How many miles on your x5?

Hey "02...."

I ended cutting it left and right of the pump.... HOWEVER, other forum users said that the carpet can be un-clipped under the seat. Please avoid doing what I did, keep your car nice.

I just did this about a month ago. The fuel pump is under passenger 2nd row rear seat. You have to remove only the 2nd row seat to access the fuel pump.

Do you have a 3rd row on your X5? I know that if you DO NOT have a third row seat it's under the passenger seat I've seen many pictures of that but I've yet to see a picture of any any posting of an X5 e70 with 3rd row seat FP location. With 3rd row second set of seats pull up and there's nothing underneath
