AC Weak

So amidst the little heat wave we had here in North Eastern Illinois, my A/C kinda crapped out on the passengers side up front and in the rear. It would finally blow barely cold at highway speeds and like an ice cube on the drivers side front and rear.

Couldn't get into Fields (Best Dealer Ever) so I went to the shitwads @ Knauz. $400 bucks for an evac/recharge. They said it was very low and I probably damaged the compressor.

Not wanting to give Knauz a dime of my money I took it to advance auto and bought a $30 can of freon. Added the conditioner and seal with freon for maybe 20 seconds. Been Ice Cold on both sides for the past week and a half.

Useless thread but just an FYI.

blue dragon will become famous soon enough
Closed system, if its leaking, its leaking. Topping it up is only delaying fixing it

The compressor always has vapor/gas on the inlet side, if it is topped-up sufficiently then it can be hydrolocked with liquid freon/oil and broken.

Take it to an AC shop for leak repair, evacuation dry out, and proper refill with lubricant and freon.

Recharge

Understandable and that thought crossed my mind but the compressor is under warranty and the pressure is holding at a charged level as per my indy. The truck is almost 8 years old with 150k mi. If the compressor blows up, its a paid repair and the amount of freon it needed was so minimal that I didnt see the need to throw money at a potential issue this late in the season. If its low next spring, I'll pony up the dough to get it fixed.

I appreciate the feedback though guys.
