Seeing how re flashing it worked, which means first attempt was a dud, which means... he should pay for shipping both ways. That would be my argument.

Great news to hear it got sorted out. Couple questions: 1) what are the expected gain with this tune, 2) do you know if his tune will work on CA vehicles without having to red lash to stock for smog and lastly 3) how does the butt day I feel And did you notice a difference?

Awesome to see a fellow CA resident with this tune. How are you liking it and have you gone through a smog test with the tune yet? I'm still under warranty so of course there's always the issue with that but if I can get a solid reliable tune to get a noticeable increase in power and still pass smog I'm all in. bTW what is the price for the tune?

It is actually a tune I developed along with a BMW diesel tuner from Norway. MY 2012 still has a few years before it has to pass smog, but there absolutely no reason the tune will make the car to not pass. Even with no boost increase, only optimization of the factory tune, the diesel was very strong.
First time passengers get really scared. From standstill it is not very fast, but after 80 it continues to accelerate the same way it goes from 40 to 80. I went up to 130 a few times (which is 120 actual speed) and it doesnt hit a wall in the acceleration, just keeps pulling. |

I dont want to turn this into advertisement, but it is good for the fellow diesel owners to have this information, even though it is unofficial yet. Stage1 tune is running for 11 months on my car and 1 another out of state. It is planned to be around 320hp/475tq which is considered to be safe for the transmission. It doesnt just "add" XXX hp, but changes the character(powerband) of the engine completely. It gets as close to gas engine as possible at the top end without losing the low-end supremacy. The midrange power dip doesnt exist anymore and the engine pulls strong almost all the way to the redline.
We are also testing DPF and EGR OFF tunes on another car. All has been very successful, but there is no official release yet. Our goal is to iron all wrinkles and have some real numbers on the table, i.e dyno charts, before the end of this year. Tunes like this are usually around $1100-1200 range, but we plan to have to price out aggressively. There will be also a special discount for fellow Xoutpost members which will bring the price down to around $800. If someone is interested to test drive my car or to be a beta-tester please contact me on PM. Last edited by bawareca; 10-03-2015 at 11:51 PM. |

Definitely interested. Curious to see the upcoming data. I'd love to do some emissions bypassing as it seems this is really the only weak point of the Diesel engine but again, my concerns are those with passing CA emissions testing in the future.

This is what i found about the diesel smog test in CA and it should be absolutely no problem for a stage1 tuned car to pass with flying colors. The tune disappears when the DDE is flashed with ISTA or other BMW tool. I dont know about the other companies, but with us the re-flash of the DDE will be absolutely free for life.
"California certified smog check stations are allowed to perform a diesel engine smog inspection if they possess OIS Smog Test equipment. The diesel smog test will not include the emissions test portion of the regular inspection. There will be no tailpipe emissions inspection either. Diesel cars and trucks are not driven on a dynamometer during the smog test either. The diesel smog test will focus on a visual inspection of your vehicle's emissions/smog components, a system check of the On Board Diagnostics (OBD II) system, a visual smoke check for excessive black (carbon) smoke, and an EVAP functional test. Diesel cars and trucks which fail the diesel smog test will have to get their vehicles repaired at a diesel vehicle repair shop before retesting." |
