I bought my X5 with 67K on the clock and it smoked back then.
It now has 155K... and guess what...., It's still smoking. lol

But it's not very pronounced so you don't notice.

Here is what you can do to test this:
- start and run car at idle for 2 to 4 minutes
- quickly, press gas pedal all the way to the floor
if you saw blue smoke you are in the same boat I am in.

Long story short, the smoke is only visible when idling for a long time.
Also, as long as you change your oil often you are better off.
