importing an E70 xdrive40d into the US

Hello friends,

Would I be able to legally import, register, and drive, a used BMW E70 xDrive40d from Europe into the US ?
This version is not available in the US i suspect due to different emissions standards. This version has a particle filter but no SCR and no AdBlue/Urea and complies to Euro 5 emission standards ( the latest being Euro 6 which now also has SCR with urea but that is only in the F15 not in the E70).

Thanks

The question is, why would you want to do this?

Because it has the twin turbo diesel engine with 302 hp and it drives so well.
Because it has the 8 speed trans box copared to the 6 speed box for us version.
Because it doesn't have any adblue tanks and sensors and headaches.
Oh and...because I already own it love it and if I sold it to buy another one here I would lose a ton of money and not find another one like it at that price point.

I think you'll run into a lot of problems bringing an European car here.
Out of curiosity, anything special about that car?

Edit: we probably posted about the same time. I see you have a ton of reasons to bring it here. I hear about cars going to Europe (much cheaper in US) but never from Europe to US.

Some reading for you

And even more reading

Thank you for the links. I'll have some reading to do.
It's true you can always find a few x5's of us spec being sold on mobile.de
Wouldn't say a lot but always find a few, especially newer ones bc us price is significantly lower even at eur-usd parity.

Buy a totaled US spec X5 in the same color and 'borrow' the vins for your eurospec 40d.

Probably cheaper.

Isn't it illegal to swap VIN's only from another car ?

I hear you, but you probably wont be able to do this legally in the next 20 years. I have twin turbo diesel engine with 440hp/550tq and no.......
What ARD suggested may be a bit extreme, but you can buy a US spec diesel and install your parts that you have imported separately in the US. Although there are other ways to make the car not very legal

Probably cheaper to get another diesel here, get the tune from Bawareca and enjoy over 300hp. You probably wont miss your 40d after that.
