The answer is yes. Go search on this forum or bimmerfest I can't remember. I used INPA to reset my TC adaptation and register the new battery.

confession: the first gen X5 we traded in at 170k miles. diffs and transfer case had original fluid in there. I changed the transmission regularly but never touched the diffs since they were not limited slip.
