Battery replacement question
I have just replaced my 35d AGM battery by myself today. However, the battery salesman (Firestone) mentioned it that if my car is "iDrive" then You need to reset battery setting by BMW dealer, otherwise, you do not need to. I do not want to get anything wrong on my car just because of my careless. Ttherefore, I have tried to search some related threads in here. Unfortunately, I got nothing about it. My 35d is 2010 model and it is xDrive. My question is "Does the xDrive need to reset battery setting or not if I replaced a AGM battery (Interstate MT5 49/H8)" Thanks |

If you're replacing like for like there's no need to reset the battery. If you are going by the book you should so the IBS knows you have a new battery and adjusts accordingly. You might get an extra year or two of life from the battery.

The charging system tracks nominal new battery capacity and calculated current battery capacity, due to aging, in order to prevent overcharging cumulative damage.
One ampere-hour of overcharge changes 0.335 grams of electrolyte water to gas. When gas pressure exceeds some small pressure < 3 psi it is vented overboard. A well maintained AGM battery can last almost ten years, and a thousand cycles if the average State of Charge (also tracked by the IBS) is maintained above 70%.

You need to register a new battery and, if it differs from the old one, may also need to code it. It has been discussed and explained before, just search...although I see a potential challenge given your confusion re iDrive and xDrive
