If you can read some codes from the tailgate module you may get a clue what is acting up.
It doesnt have hydraulic cylinders, rams are electric.

My tailgate has been fussy ever since my best friend slammed my tailgate down hard. It always releases but depending on the temperature outside it only latches every second or third time. I don't have a power tailgate (Adding that this spring) so it is me nicely applying little force when closing and letting the tailgate pull itself in the way it was designed. I have noticed the performance is better once I adjusted it for the annoying rattle but its still fussy.

I think the OP is talking about the power lifting of the gate, but it is up to him to clarify.
