turbo lag ?

Can someone explain to me what this is ?

My issue. X5 35i has a lag when I depress the throttle then pushes the head
back into the seat...is this due to the vehicle weight ? tuning ? or "turbo lag" ?
It may just be my imagination, but , seems more noticeable when I first start
driving. Can this be adjusted ? or, is it driver error ? I would opt for a smoother
start from full stop. I have been driving this vehicle for two months now and the
take offs just don't seem to be improving. Herky-jerky take-offs
aren't my cuppa.

What year?

Sounds like turbo-lag or just a lag in the gas pedal sender (which is by wire). Can probably be adjusted by a good tuner. But if new or under warranty, start with your dealer.

Wink

Good ideas Mike ! Thanks.

2013 , still under warranty. It kind of reminds me of when I first started
using a stickshift. Ha ! I was thinking maybe I got some bad gas, but,
no knocking, no pinging. And, the kicker...it does it intermittently. So, to the
dealer it is. So, let them run the diagnostics . Kind of hope they
find something.

btw...the wiki on turbochargers was informative... but I'm guessing most
of you already know this.

It's normal.
I have a boost gauge and am tuned too.
But I find if I do not full press the throttle. And do 75% the boost will hit max quicker. Now that doesn't mean it's faster. It just means it's using more boost instead of using other means to get to target load. Boost is more noticeable

Thanks JYOHAY.

I'll have dealer evaluate , but , after surfing the net
I'm finding a lot of "that's the way it is". Small trade off
and I'm sure many wouldn't notice. May just have to
accept it.
