Differential

I read when you change the oil from the XDrive transfer, you have to reset the transfer and I read that only the dealer has a tool for that. Is a there another way you can buy the reset tools online? And what is the name of it if anyone knows who has done this job.

I have tried resetting this light 5+times with my carly adapter. Its at the dealership for an oil change and odd suspension issue that I haven't the time or effort to diagnose. I am having it reset.

You can use INPA or Rheingold to reset the counter

I've been searching this for a while and DIS seems to be the only way. Also, he's talking about the transfer case adaptation reset, not a counter.

Okay gentlemen, I just bought: LATEST * 2015 BMW INPA + ISTA-D 3.50.10 + ISTA-P 3.55.0.300 ISPI RHEINGOLD. Since it is my first time using it, would I need to start the car or not to scan?

Sorry I was not able to reply earlier, but there are a number of other stand alone tools that can reset the transfer case and transmission adaptions. These include either Pro-sumer or Profession Scan tools.

Many of the tools from the mobile trucks have these capabilities assuming the have the European vehicle support options. So for example my SnapOn Solus Ultra and my MODIS support these features. My Autel MaxiDAS also supports these features.

I have Carly for BMW, however, I have not yet tried to use this feature.

Another up and coming stand alone tool that has a lot of promise is the Schwaben Professional BMW/Mini Scan Tool. This is an OEM tool to ECS Tuning from Foxwell. One interesting feature is you can add VAG and other lines to the tool for typically $60. Annual updates after the first 18 months are currently $60.

First and foremost this tool is a generic OBDII scan tool with Live/Realtime data, Freeze Frame and will read standard OBDII Pxxx codes so you can use it on any 1996 or newer car in your fleet that supports OBDII.

This tool also supports manufacturer specific features like, ABS, Airbag, EPB (Electric Parking Brake) and will scan most all of the modules on the vehicle. It does have bi-directional control of some features on the vehicle.

It also resets Service info like Brake Pad wear, Brake fluid flush and Oil change.

I am in the process of following up on Battery Registration/Programming with the vendor. I checked on my 2008 E70, the Battery Registration/Programming menus are on the tool, however, on my vehicle it responded that my vehicle was not supported. Not sure if this is a mistake in the software or if this feature has not been released yet.

So for $200 and no software to install, just online updates as needed it looks like a cost effective option.

So this is worth a check and there are claims there is more to come with newer online updates.

I have one in hand, working on a review. Been a bit side tracked and have been waiting on some updates. Also waiting on some feedback on a few other issues.

I have mine configured for both BMW and VAG.

I would say overall a very capable little tool. For the price it is well worth it for a stand alone tool that does not need a computer science degree to get up and working.

I still say and will continue to say that there is not a single do it all tool, no mater the price.

I will ALWAYS recommend the OBDFusion App as it is a workhorse that will allow Logging that even tools 1000+ time more expensive cannot do easily.

The Schwaben tool is very promising and has a lot of features. But keep in mind I may not be testing all the features because clearing Service Settings and doing other things increments the vehicle counters and may also not be such as wise idea. So many of the features will need to be tested tough by forum members as they perform work on their vehicles.

So for $200, I think it is worth having. Even if you have and swear by ISTA, INPA or other tools. Having a dedicated stand along tool is always a wise idea. Small, powered by the car, specific purpose, no software to crash, easy to carry and move between vehicles.

More to follow and I will likely put up a review here and on other forums.

What was the process for configuring it for both BMW and VAG? I was thinking about that the other day.
