My understanding is the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank and can't be replaced by itself.

My 2008 has the fuel filter integrated into the fuel pump assembly which is not cheap.
HOWEVER, based on my rules, I replaced the electric fuel pump on my 2008 E70 with a 4.8l at around 70k miles. Just a PM as far as I was concerned. Also I was planning on doing a lot of long distance travel and I did not want to learn how long the E70 fuel pumps last. The pump is a DIY job, BUT far more difficult that any other BMW I have worked on due to the wiring connections and other hoses that connect inside the tank. Kind of a PITA, it clearly was not a 15 minuted job like the E46/E39 I have replaced in the past.

according to this link below, the fuel filter is external. I have no idea if this is correct. I'm going to have to call around tomorrow to double check.

Fuel filter is right under the driver's side seat under the splash shield

Here is the link from RealOEM for the pump/filter combination for my 2008 E70
RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog I choose a 2011 LCI 35xi and it shows the same fuel pump/filter combination - RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog Different part numbers, but same pump/filter description Fuel filters are listed under the Fuel Preparation System I am not seeing one, but lets make sure we know EXACTLY what model the OP is dealing with.

Surging during acceleration/Engine power reduced??
Thanks for the reply. I only showed the eBay list because it was the only one available for fuel filter location for the searches I could find.
I was thinking I am having a fuel delivery issues as my X5 has been surging under acceleration (under load) and now engine malfunction reduced power light is on. I had the plugs changed last week because I thought at 70k miles it could be a plug. No codes stored or active during scan. I'm now thinking a coil issue, due to surging issue and now engine/malfunction light has just come on light. I'm still under CPO warranty, so another trip.....Thanks appreciate it. |

What engine do you have?
Suggest you get the OBDFusion App and proper interface for your phone/tablet. Under $30 and you will be able to read codes and even Log data. BTW, many of these E70 will never alert you of a charging problem.

I have the N55 gas engine. Odometer reads 72k miles.
Spark plugs replaced under 200 miles ago using OEM Bosch plugs. Engine was scanned prior to spark plug replacement and no codes were stored or active. Eng/Mal resets when car is turned off. Vehicle was surging prior to this. I have ruled out the plugs were bad. Engine /malfunction light comes on during acceleration but resets after vehicle is turned off. Warranty should cover those issues. Appreciate your help. |
