My kids are 4, and coming from a 4Runner w/ boards, so they are both very independent and enjoy the climb in. Day 1 with the X5 they were looking for a proper step and ended up just stepping up on the molding.

I like the look and my kids prefer them, so I'll be doing them. All the literal fancy-pants owners may have other priorities.
