INPA still the best DIY tool?

I haven't had any BMWs for a while now, but like to be able to do most stuff myself. Used to have DIS GT1, INPA and Carsoft. I know GT1 was replaced with SSS Progman a lot of years ago. Also GT1 was a nightmare to configure and get running.

What's the easiest and best tool available for E70 DIY? Preferably either stand alone or for a normal Windows laptop.

I have been using Rheingold on my normal W10 x64 laptop. It was easy to find and get setup and running.

Can Carsoft code my E83 to have the angel eye on as DRL, other than the dimmed high beam? This is something I've always dreaming about.

THanks a lot!

Rheingold,BMW Scanner v1.4.0 (pasoft clone), INPA K+DCAN with pin7&8 switch. INPA cable is cheaper/better option for beginner

Did you just do the download or did you have them send you a cable and the software?

I have a couple of cables already so I'm hoping I can just do the download and all will be well.

Awesome! Has anyone managed to update their transmission software with this? I have the Romanian software pack and it works great but software updates are hit or miss in my experience with it. I like the looks of the Rheingold software pack!

You need ISTA/P for this or WINFKP.
Either way you HAVE to use a power supply (50 amps or so) that provides 14v continuous power.

ISTA/P in Expert Mode and exclude radio etc. But if you do transmission, you will have to do CAS/DME/DDE too.
You can use a modified copy of ISTA/P to use K+DCAN cables. Make sure you get a very good quality cable and not the usual 20 bucks ebay cable.

Many people did that themselves not using power supply and cheap cables and ending up with a huge paper holder on their driveway with a car they could not even start anymore.

IF you are not confident, just ask any BMW specialist to do that for you. Or the dealer. They all have the proper tools and training for this.

I would not roll the dice doing this with a DCAN cable, or without a power supply. Thats just asking for a bricked module. ICOM only

ICOM makes no difference here.
ICOM would be mandatory for MULF/COMBOX/CCC/CIC etc, but EGS/DDE/DME, a good quality cable with FTDI Chip will do just fine.

I have been using the One Stop Electronics OBD plug for years for flashing small modules, never let me down.
Car Diagnostic :: By Product Type :: INPA & Ediabas :: BMW INPA / Ediabas K+DCAN USB Interface - one-stop-electronics.com

A chinese ICOM clone is about 500 bucks, plus power supply etc. This does not make sense to invest if this is to flash your very own once only.
Better go to the dealer or BMW Specialist. Should be around 200-300 bucks to get the job done.
